Treating selected heart valve conditions.
Heart valve disease can cause narrowing (stenosis) or leakage (regurgitation), affecting blood flow through the heart. Valve repair or replacement may be considered after clinical assessment and investigations.
Types of valve procedures
Depending on the valve and its condition, options may include mitral valve repair or replacement, aortic valve procedures, tricuspid valve repair, or pulmonary valve surgery. Repair may be considered when appropriate; replacement options can include mechanical or tissue valves.
Assessment and approach
Symptoms, echocardiography and other investigations help determine whether intervention is needed. Open, minimally invasive, robotic-assisted or catheter-based options such as TAVI may be considered for selected patients. Your specialist will discuss options, risks and follow-up.
- Mitral valve repair or replacement
- Aortic valve procedures, including TAVI for selected patients
- Tricuspid valve repair
